Saturday, 11 August - Day 10: Bruges, BE - Ghent, BE

Today:  49,17 km (30.6 miles)
Trip to date:  758,10 km (471.1 miles)

We got up and again had a great breakfast together.  As I got my bicycle and loaded it up, Gudrun checked her small luggage in with reception at the hotel.  Before catching the train home, she stayed in the city for a couple hours more of sightseeing and shopping.  (She got me a cool, "Bruges cycling" t-shirt.)  We said our goodbyes in front of the hotel, and I finally left at about 11 a.m.

Only going as far as Ghent meant I had a short day of cycling.  This was probably a good thing.  Though I slept well, and woke up feeling o.k. I was drenched in sweat and felt a little chilled.  I don't think I really felt in good form at all after the second-to-last really hot day that ended in Dordrecht, NL.

The good thing from this point on is that I don't have any firm deadlines to meet.  If I feel tired I can stop early.  If I need a rest day I can take one.

Speaking of rest day, after checking the weather forecast I figured I might end up taking a rest day in Antwerp, BE on Monday.  Antwerp was my destination for Sunday's segment, and the forecast called for rain most of the day on Monday.
