2017 - Andermatt, Switzerland - Aachen (EuroVelo 15 Rhein Route)
I didn't keep a running blog of last year's trip. I simply posted some photographs and comments on FB. But, to give some consistency to this website I decided to add some of the more memorable photographs and a few comments.
This trip didn't have nearly the "Wow!" factor as last year's. It was certainly challenging in the early part in Switzerland, but afterwards it was the the Rhein all over again. I don't know how many times one can ride (or drive) along the Rhein before it starts becoming blasé.
I enjoyed the ride in Switzerland enormously. The ride from Oberalppass to Bodensee was challenging in parts, and the scenery was beautiful. From Bodensee to Basel, and north until Karlsruhe was also scenic, but it was very hot. Up to 37°C (98.6°F). I rode quite a few days wearing a long sleeve shirt. I should've had something to protect my knees and upper thighs. They got burned to a crisp.
In almost every campground I met nice people, and we usually enjoyed dinner and a beer or two exchanging cycling experiences. It was especially cool to meet Ru and Chen Han from Beijing. They'd been on the road for almost 1.5 years and had reached the Rhein travelling from Beijing via Iran and North Africa! Wow!
Let's see what's in store for 2018 and beyond.
