Final Preparations Underway
Having a surprise move opportunity arise shortly before a bicycle tour like this one has mixed implications. I'm glad we moved as the new apartment is exactly what we've been seeking for a long time. Everything on one level. Two bathrooms (not simply a WC). Underground parking, a lift, and walking distance to all our basic needs. That is was close to our friends and where we lived before made it even better.
Preparing for and executing the move, however, took a lot of effort and was aggravating. Sorting and packing everything we needed to take with us, and bringing other things to local charities was time consuming and stressful. Then, once everything was in the new place, getting it unpacked, put away, and returning all the boxes was another week of all day, every day work. I'm happy that almost all will be finished tomorrow when we install the last three overhead lamps in the kitchen, dining and living areas. After that all we will have left is to roll out a few carpets and hang some pictures.
Daily training rides to stay fit for an upcoming trip do not fit in well with moving. I did get in some time in the fitness center and last week I even managed two training rides. The distance and difficulty were enough to tell me I was not as fit as I'd like, but I was still o.k. for the departure planned for this coming Saturday morning. I'll try to squeeze in a couple more mid-distance rides this week. Giving my bike one last inspection and cleaning and gathering and packing all the stuff I'll be taking with me for three months still has to be done. That part gets easier after having done it so many times before.
Like before, I will post photos and short updates on Facebook almost every day. I will only be updating the blog on rest days which will be every week-to-ten days.
